I like fingerpicking it in sixths (although any pattern will do nicely);

Of course, use the base note of the chord as the E displayed above is only for illustration.
When fingerpicking the second last line in each verse, you can use the D string (E note) for base in
the C chord as the pitch changes from C to E (making it a C/E i suppose). Playing around with the base note
can also be done other places, e.g. playing the base notes F, C, C, G, in lines 3 and 4.
