Subject: CRD: Red Wing (Western swing)
Here is a chord progression for a nice old tune: "Red Wing." These chords are
done in a western swing/Texas contest backup style. Each chord is played for
two beats, and so the 64 cells below will provide backup for once through the A
and B sections. These are mostly played with a simple
bass-CHOP-bass-CHOP
1 2 3 4
rhythm pattern. Produce the CHOP sound by lifting your left-hand fingers right
after you strike the chord. So, this gives sort of an "interlaced" walking bass
line and a set of voice-led chords. This style is also sometimes called "sock
guitar." A cell with number(s) over it means to play the notes indicated as
single notes at the beats specified by the numbers.
