So this is really easy once you get the hang of it but it takes a little time to get the
rhythm right.
You start on an Am for two beats then move the finger that s on the second fret of the D
string up to the second fret of the A string for two beats (Amadd9). Then A regular C
for two beats, then pull off on the D string for two beats (Csus2). I also like to pull
off on the B string in the middle of playing the Fs in the verses.

Intro - | Amadd9 | | | x 2
Amadd9
I grew up in a town with one red light
Amadd9
How that train would rattle me in the middle of the night
Amadd9
But I slept like a baby in that bed
| Amadd9 | | |
Cause mama kept me warm and she kept me fed
Amadd9
July 3rd was a dreaded friend of mine
Amadd9
We d all go down to the family plot in the Louisiana pines
Amadd9
Staring at that little baby s grave
| Amadd9 | | |
Stella was as young as she was brave
And what I d give to go there again
Kiss my daddy s face, hold my mama s hand
Little did I know soon they would be
| Amadd9 | | |
Lying right beside her, gone away from me
| Amadd9 | | |
Gone away from me
Amadd9
They always made us kneel by grandpa s grave
Amadd9
Mama was a-wailing asking God if he was saved
Amadd9
I never liked to see my daddy cry
| Amadd9 | | |
I guess I ll never know how grandpa died
And what I d give to go there again
Kiss my daddy s face, hold my mama s hand
Little did I know soon they would be
| Amadd9 | | |
Lying right beside her, gone away from me
| Amadd9 | | |
Gone away from me
Amadd9
You barely even see the tombstones now
Amadd9
The trees are grown up everywhere and no one keeps the grounds
Amadd9
Strangers live inside my childhood home
| Amadd9 | | |
And I can t believe that daddy s really gone
And what I d give to go there again
Kiss his withered face, hold her gentle hand
But there ain t no way that will ever be
They lie beneath that old tree,
| Amadd9 | | |
Gone away from me (Gone away from me)
| Amadd9 | | |
Gone away from me
| Amadd9 | | |
Gone away from me (Gone away from me)
Amadd9
Well I grew up in a town with one red light
