Goodbye
Steve Earle is the composer; this version may follow Chrissie Hynde's interpretation more than the
original as performed by Mr. Earle. It was suggested that I move this to her page on U-G, but I don't think
composers should lose credit just because someone else arranged it. Those who are interested in
a version more true to Steve Earle's original should probably look at version 3.
Capo I/III/V (original key: Ab; Chrissie Hynde performs this in Gb rather than Ab)
[Verse 1]
G D/F#
I remember holding on to you
Em Csus4 C G Gsus4 G
All them long and lonely nights I put you through
G D
Somewhere in there I'm sure I made you cry
C D/F# G
But I can't remember if we said goodbye
C G
I recall all those nights down in Mexico
D/F# G Gsus4 G
The one place I might never go in my life again
G D/G D/F#
Maybe I was off somewhere--getting high
C (Cmaj7) D/F# G Gsus4 G
But I can't remember if we said goodbye
[Verse 2]
D/F#
I only miss you here every now and then
Em D/F# G Gsus4
Like the soft breeze blowing up from the Caribbean
G D/F#
Most Novembers I break down and cry
C(Cmaj7) D/F# G
But I can't remember if we said goodbye
D/F# Em Em7 C
But I can't remember if we said goodbye
G D/F# G
But I can't remember if we said goodbye
Goodbye
